The Registered Nurse (RN) serves as a vital caregiver responsible for a designated group of patients over a specific time period, delivering care through the application of the nursing process, contemporary nursing practices, and effective utilization of available resources within the institution's philosophy.

*Floats across various inpatient departments including Medical-Surgical, Oncology, Orthopedic, Advanced Care, and ICUs (if applicable)

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma (not High School)

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Registered Professional Nurse (RN) License in Illinois upon hire and

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience. Must have successfully completed the Carle Nurse Residency Program (CNRP) and demonstrate clinical competency to work within the Medical/Surgical clinical group, with exceptions for Medical/Surgical holding areas, R4 Observation, and Stepdown. After two (2) years in this role, the RN is expected to have achieved clinical competency for the entire Medical/Surgical clinical group.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Complete all mandatory continuing education related to the care of acute stroke patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute all responsibilities and duties specific to the unit's scope of service. Implement procedures and theories pertinent to the area of practice. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care to ensure the integration of information for the healthcare team.
  • Conduct initial assessments upon patient admission and develop a suitable plan of care in accordance with unit standards, tailored to patient and family needs. Implement the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Adjust the plan of care based on ongoing evaluations.
  • Ensure patient and employee safety by reporting and/or rectifying safety hazards and incidents.
  • Engage in direct communication with others when necessary to resolve issues. Provide constructive feedback to support the professional growth of peers, and collaborate with colleagues to enhance knowledge. Identify personal learning needs and take initiative to address them.
  • Fulfill all departmental competency requirements.
  • Float to various inpatient units including Medical-Surgical, Oncology, Orthopedic, Advanced Care, and ICUs (if applicable).
  • Complete Unit Nurse Leader Training as required.
  • Deliver direct nursing care, collaborating with multidisciplinary team members to provide comprehensive patient care across diverse patient populations.
  • Conduct and document assessments, nursing diagnoses, plans, implementations, and evaluations of patient care.
  • Precept staff from various units as needed.
  • Coordinate care with multidisciplinary team members to facilitate and ensure the highest quality of patient care.
