Main Responsibilities
  • Assist with patient care and eye exams, including managing patient records and supporting patient flow throughout the exam
  • Perform preliminary evaluations, including obtaining accurate and detailed patient histories, reviewing medication lists carefully, visual acuities, motility evaluations, pupil and angle assessments, refraction, pachymetry, applanation tonometry, and pupil dilation
  • Perform special testing, including OCTs, biometry, topography, and retinal imaging/photography
  • Perform all pre-examination testing with accuracy and attention to detail, taking the initiative to explain all measurements and answer any questions the patient may have
  • Identify situations involving dissatisfied patients and act quickly for resolution
  • Perform work efficiently, accurately, and thoroughly despite time pressure and patient volume
  • Handle and file all patient records in an organized and efficient manner in accordance with practice standards and HIPAA
  • Effectively utilize appointment book/scheduling procedures and computer operation/procedures
  • Maintain a safe working environment for all team members and patients
  • Adapt to various examination scenarios and be personable with patients and staff
  • Responsible for maintenance and disinfection of equipment and exam lanes
  • Work weekends and evenings when necessary, in support of the business needs (varies by location)
  • Adhere to attendance and daily time keeping requirements
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • Consistently maintain proper dress code
  • Proactively fulfill all responsibilities as assigned by lead technician or ophthalmologist

Requirements
  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • 1+ year of strong customer service skills (internal/external)
  • Strong communicator and listener
  • Problem solving ability
  • Organization skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to assess priorities, address multiple tasks, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to use exam software, point-of-sale technology, and ophthalmic equipment
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Knowledge of office environment
  • Strong basic math skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in healthcare/clinical setting
  • Previous experience in customer service, retail, and/or optical
  • Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) Certification(s)
