Position Overview:

The Surgical Registered Nurse delivers direct patient care utilizing the nursing process, adhering to established standards and practices in the surgical environment. Responsibilities include:

  • Implementing care plans, administering medications, collecting specimens, and providing clinical treatments.
  • Documenting all patient care activities.
  • Monitoring and communicating patient conditions to the care team, physicians, patients, and families.
  • Assisting patients with daily living activities, including hygiene, nutrition, and mobility.
  • Collaborating across disciplines to ensure coordinated patient care, including transfers, discharges, referrals, and psychosocial support.
  • Assessing the educational needs of patients and families, providing tailored education based on age, culture, and health status.
  • Advocating for the physical and emotional well-being of patients.
  • Providing care in accordance with established standards in other nursing units as required.


Reports to: Director of Surgical Services

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Educational Requirements:

Associate's degree in Nursing or RN Diploma - Required

Bachelor's degree in Nursing – Preferred

Essential Skills:

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing or RN Diploma – Required

Critical thinking, decisive judgment, and the ability to operate with minimal supervision are essential. Candidates must thrive in high-pressure environments and respond appropriately. Proficiency in computer skills is required.

Certifications:

· Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) - Required upon hire.

· ACLS & PALS certifications from the AHA or ARC - Required within 12 months of employment if not current upon hire.

Licensure:

State of Tennessee or Multi-State Registered Nurse licensure – Required

Experience:

1 year of experience in Medical/Surgical or Surgical Nursing - Preferred
