Job Description

Position Title: Bilingual Case Manager

Overview: The Bilingual Case Manager plays a crucial role in assisting newly arrived migrant families in their transition to life in the United States. This position requires a compassionate individual dedicated to providing essential support and resources to help families navigate their new environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Welcome and assist new migrant arrivals, facilitating their adjustment process.
  • Ensure timely and appropriate services are provided to families during their initial 90 days, adhering to program guidelines.
  • Guide participants in accessing vital services, including public assistance, education, healthcare, language classes, and employment resources.
  • Coordinate essential needs for clients, ensuring they have access to care, education, and resources for a smooth transition.
  • Deliver initial and ongoing orientations covering health, safety, budgeting, and bill management.
  • Conduct thorough assessments for each migrant, develop personalized service plans, and connect them with relevant services.
  • Encourage clients to strive for self-sufficiency and pursue early employment opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate and timely client records, case notes, and reporting documentation.
  • Act as a cultural intermediary between volunteers, service providers, and refugee families.
  • Collaborate with volunteers and staff to achieve the objectives outlined in the client’s service plan.
  • Participate actively in departmental meetings, training sessions, community events, and organizational activities.

Qualifications:

Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in social work, criminal justice, or a related field is preferred.

Experience:

  • Fluency in both Spanish and English is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Reader) is essential.
  • Experience in facilitating Peace Circles is a plus.
  • Experience working with youth and families, particularly in high-risk situations, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with community resources in Cook County is beneficial.

Additional Skills:

  • Strong sensitivity to cultural diversity and the ability to engage with diverse families and professionals.
  • Capability to conduct home visits for clients.
  • Proficient in writing reports and correspondence.
  • Effective communication skills for presenting information to groups.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in task execution.
  • Proven ability to establish supportive relationships with families from varied backgrounds and manage crises effectively.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to remain stationary for extended periods.
  • Frequent movement within the office environment.
  • Capability to travel for home visits.
  • Occasional ability to navigate stairs.
  • Medical certification of good health is required every two years.
