Electrical Substation Technician

This position is essential for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective installation, upkeep, testing, and calibration of all equipment assigned to the Cooperative. The technician will also be expected to respond to emergency call-outs as necessary. Given the geographic distribution of the Cooperative's substations, travel and overnight stays may be required to fulfill job responsibilities.

The selected candidate will undertake the following responsibilities:

  • Monitor and recommend the maintenance of an adequate inventory of spare parts in line with the Cooperative's policies.
  • Ensure proper care and protection of all equipment utilized in the execution of job duties.
  • Familiarize oneself with technical drawings and instruction manuals for all relevant equipment.
  • Update and maintain current substation schematics and diagrams as necessary.
  • Install and connect new equipment or replacements as required.
  • Keep detailed records of all calibration tests and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Conduct maintenance and testing of electrical devices and apparatus within the Cooperative's power delivery network.
  • Perform switching operations on the power delivery system following established procedures.

Minimum qualifications include a High School diploma or equivalent and completion of a four-year apprenticeship program. Ideal candidates will possess strong mechanical skills and the ability to interpret schematic diagrams and wiring layouts. Preferred qualifications include four years of field experience and familiarity with high voltage transmission system operations and maintenance. Knowledge of various testing equipment such as power quality analyzers, oscilloscopes, transformer turn ratio testers, breaker analyzers, ductors, HiPot testers, power factor testing equipment, and megger devices is advantageous.

Compensation: $47.04 per hour
