Job Overview

Position Summary: The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of manufacturing operations, including logistics and shipping and receiving (S&R). This position ensures that production adheres to high safety and quality standards, meets timelines, and utilizes resources effectively. The Production Manager collaborates closely with departments such as quality assurance, production planning, and maintenance to ensure seamless production flow and identify opportunities for process enhancements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct the manufacturing and logistics teams to meet objectives related to safety, quality, timely delivery, production throughput, continuous improvement, and cost efficiency.
  • Oversee daily production activities, ensuring schedules are adhered to and resources such as labor, materials, and machinery are optimized.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies in all production activities.
  • Collaborate with other departments to address production and logistical challenges and enhance operational processes.
  • Monitor production workflows, ensuring proper equipment usage, efficient processes, and adherence to quality standards.
  • Plan and coordinate production-related projects, including new product launches and process improvements.
  • Identify and implement strategies for enhancing production efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Lead and support the production and S&R teams, providing necessary resources and guidance for effective performance.
  • Manage recruitment, training, and performance assessments for direct reports, including promotions, transfers, or disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Engage with external suppliers for production materials, equipment maintenance, and logistics support.
  • Anticipate future production requirements, ensuring the facility can meet customer demands while controlling costs.
  • Maintain consistency and best practices across all production lines.
  • Manage inventory of production materials and equipment to minimize operational downtime.
  • Coordinate with other departments, such as procurement and quality assurance, to facilitate smooth production operations.
  • Supervise operator housekeeping and maintenance tasks for production equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and maintain relevant certifications, including IATF16949, ISO45001, and ISO14001.
  • Ensure accuracy and currency of all production records and documentation.
  • Provide regular updates to senior management regarding departmental issues or progress.
  • Ensure that safety systems related to production are functioning effectively, in collaboration with HR.
  • Respond promptly to any safety hazards identified in the production area.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline, with 7 to 10 years of experience in production management, preferably within a manufacturing context.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in managing production operations, including shipping and receiving functions.

Work Environment:

  • This role operates in both a manufacturing facility and an office setting, requiring hands-on involvement in the manufacturing environment. Standard office equipment is routinely utilized.

Physical Requirements:

  • The physical demands described are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The employee is regularly required to communicate respectfully. Frequent standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods are necessary. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. This position may require occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
