Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Quality Assurance Engineer to join our team at Independent Software. This role involves analyzing system requirements, developing evaluation and test plans, conducting data collection and analysis, and reporting status and results.

The ideal candidate will have eight (8) years' experience as a TE in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity. A bachelor's degree in Math, Science, Engineering, Statistics, Engineering Management, or a related discipline from an accredited college or university is required. The salary for this position is estimated to be around $120,000 - $160,000 per year.

This position requires excellent communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, report findings, discuss requirements, and present solutions. Experience with software testing methodologies, including test planning, test case design, test execution, and test result analysis, is also necessary.

Key Responsibilities

Some of the key responsibilities of this role include:
  • Conducting research into government test and evaluation concepts and related engineering, acquisition, and operations activities as needed to support T&E activities.
  • Planning and executing performance analysis.
  • Reviewing planned acquisition approaches to support T&E schedule alignment with decision-maker needs for T&E support.
  • Analyzing performance risk areas to focus T&E planning and specifying, validating, and adapting Modeling and Simulation for T&E use.
  • Applying statistical analysis of variations in performance behavior to characterize confidence in performance estimates.
  • Selecting, developing, and using analysis tools, executing the evaluation plan on data collected by Testing Tasks.
  • Planning and executing performance data collection and event-level testing for collection of data required for analysis and to sync T&E events with supported decision points.
  • Establishing and employing Data and Configuration Management capabilities.
  • Supporting Data Authentication group functions and complying with program Discrepancy Reporting criteria and processes.
  • Assessing operation and system performance requirements for testability and criticality to frame and prioritize T&E objectives and enable evaluation planning.
  • Coordinating with program Systems Engineering (SE) and reviewing T&E-related SE information to leverage functional analysis, system descriptions, parameter selection, and dependencies, Modeling and Simulation, and initial performance risk assessments to inform evaluation planning.
  • Assessing operational environments and priorities for evaluation attention and scenario selection, and to coordinate user participation in T&E.
  • Planning program and event-level risk-tailored performance estimation and analysis of system and operational Effectiveness and Suitability metrics & conditions; levels of T&E include inspection, demonstration, paper analysis, survey, simulation, and physical test.
  • Designing surveys for evaluation of Subject Matter Expert (SME) input and user assessments of performance.
  • Participating in the T&E Working-level Integrated Product Team (WIPT) and/or Integrated Test Team for coordination of evaluation plans.
  • Producing Evaluation Plans (metric framework, scenarios/threads, timelines, requirements/T&E crosswalk), Analysis Plans, Data Requirements, Risk Assessments, Evaluation Reports, Status reports; providing input to Government T&E products (e.g., Technology Readiness Assessments, Test & Evaluation Strategy, Test & Evaluation Master Plan, T&E Plans & Procedures and Test Readiness Reports).
  • Designing data sampling schemes to optimize the information/resource balance and to control testing uncertainties.
  • Selecting, coordinating, and calibrating Instrumentation, collection, and data management tools, targets, and facilities.
  • Ensuring test readiness, including training of test event participants re-conduct of the event, equipment readiness, and security, legal, and privacy compliance arrangements.
  • Participating in T&E WIPT and/or integrated Test Team for coordination of data collection plans.
  • Executing Testing and Data Collection per plan.
  • Producing associated Test Plans, Procedures, and reports/Briefings, Data management Plan.
  • Maintaining knowledge of current and evolving agency, national, and international standards applicable to the system development of interest.
  • Communicating issues and solutions to the broader government and contract management structure as requested by Leadership.
  • Ensuring the appropriate level of independence of the team from the solution provider to support government management of objectivity risk.
  • Managing T&E resources and tasks; ensuring quality assurance of test processes and products.
  • Coordinating and integrating Evaluation and Testing tasks and products. Drive innovation and responsiveness to program changes and evolving T&E status to help manage program risk; developing alternative courses of action, workarounds, and fallback positions with a recommendation course of action for each risk, monitoring, and re-evaluating risks at appropriate milestones.
  • Experience using the Linux CLI.
  • Experience with scripting languages like Python or Shell scripting to automate repetitive tasks, deploy test environments, and execute test suites.
  • Experience with software testing methodologies, including test planning, test case design, test execution, and test result analysis.
  • Experience with creating clear and concise documentation for test plans, procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, report findings, discuss requirements, and present solutions.
  • Experience with executing test plans and the evaluation of software and system-level capabilities.
