POSITION OVERVIEW

School Site Principal or Designated Representative
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitates student engagement by providing guidance and serving as a role model in academic, social/emotional, and physical development.
- Assists in enhancing students' communication skills across various modalities, including written, verbal, and non-verbal communication.
- Addresses individual student needs related to personal care and hygiene to promote growth and development.
- Creates opportunities for students to explore and gain awareness of vocational interests.
- Supports Special Education students in understanding their unique challenges and encourages skill development in identified areas of need.
- Promotes self-sufficiency among Special Education students, fostering their ability to interact with peers without disabilities.
- Collaborates with the classroom teacher during instructional and recreational activities.
- Prepares instructional materials and operates necessary equipment for reproduction.
- Utilizes various media and resources to enhance the learning experience in the classroom.
- Performs additional related duties as assigned.
- Establishes and nurtures effective working relationships with educators and families.
- Participates in professional development workshops and training sessions as required.
- May be tasked with specific responsibilities related to Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Any combination equivalent to a high school diploma and one year of full-time paid or two years of volunteer experience working with Special Education students, or two years of college coursework focusing on child development and Special Education.
- Must be physically capable of leading and engaging in various active pursuits.
- Ability to perceive and respond to safety-related conditions for oneself and others.
- Effective verbal communication skills suitable for both indoor and outdoor settings.
- Physical strength to lift and carry equipment, supplies, or students weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must possess adequate mobility to perform tasks such as bending, reaching, and climbing.
- Must successfully complete a proficiency assessment as mandated by state regulations.
- Possession of a valid California Driver's License and compliance with Department of Motor Vehicle checks as required.
- Understanding of the diverse needs and behaviors of children in Special Education.
- Knowledge of fundamental principles of child growth and development.
- Familiarity with the procedures, functions, and limitations associated with assigned responsibilities.
- Ability to effectively engage with children in situations that require patience and composure.
- Competence in performing clerical tasks.
