Vascular Access Team Nurse

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is seeking a skilled RN to join our Vascular Access Team. You will serve as a clinical resource and consultant to other healthcare professionals, guiding and supervising assigned nursing personnel, collaborating with other healthcare professionals, and coordinating with ancillary staff. You will also be responsible for developing and revising policies, procedures, and guidelines related to vascular access, and maintaining your own professional development.
Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate vascular access sites and devices throughout the system.
- Provide direct and indirect patient care through the application of the nursing process.
- Serve as a clinical resource and consultant to other healthcare professionals.
- Guide and supervise assigned nursing personnel.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and coordinate with ancillary staff.
- Develop and revise policies, procedures, and guidelines related to vascular access.
- Maintain your own professional development.
Requirements
- 2 years of experience in nursing.
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the single State of Georgia or Multi-State through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Experience in pediatrics.
- Experience in vascular access devices.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Professional communication skills.
Job Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Demonstrate clinical proficiency in port access, ultrasound-guided IV placement, Central Venous Access Device (CVAD) dressing changes, and CVL repairs.
- Assess, place, manage, and troubleshoot peripherally inserted central catheter lines.
- Initiate education and instruction to patients/families based on evaluation to meet learning needs.
- Provide consultation, education, and/or assistance to staff regarding management of vascular access devices.
- Perform ongoing assessment and process improvement to ensure quality in care and services.
- Demonstrate proficiency in pain management techniques for vascular access insertions.
- Demonstrate knowledge in the cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological stages of growth and development.
- Ensure all peripherally inserted central catheter program staff are trained in charge entry and balancing.
- Demonstrate proficiency in documentation in relation to vascular access care and treatment.
Staff Development
- Serve as a resource for others in their professional growth and clinical expertise.
- Demonstrate evidence-based practice to ensure current knowledge and competence in vascular access devices.
- Develop and revise policies, procedures, and guidelines related to vascular access.
- Maintain your own professional development.
- Serve on a department or system-wide committees and participate in projects.
Department Requirements
- Participate in development and implementation of program's goals and projects.
- Comply with infection control, safety, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration procedures and regulations.
- Participate in cost containment through efficient use of supplies, services, and time management.
- Participate in product evaluations when indicated and submit reports and recommendations based on results.
- Participate in peripheral intravenous monitoring and quality audits.
- Meet system and departmental mandatory requirements including staff meetings and education.
