Position Overview:
  • Orthopedic trauma nurses are responsible for delivering care to patients experiencing a range of injuries or medical emergencies that necessitate immediate intervention. They must possess the ability to identify and manage critical health conditions effectively.
  • Working under general oversight, these nurses apply the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation, in alignment with established healthcare philosophies.
  • Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams is essential to ensure optimal patient care and to achieve favorable health outcomes.
  • This role reports directly to the unit supervisor within the healthcare facility.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Gather comprehensive patient histories and current symptoms, coordinating with healthcare professionals to formulate, execute, and assess patient care strategies.
  • Conduct triage assessments, taking into account both physical and emotional health factors.
  • Administer basic life support and stabilize patients until a physician is available, adhering to nursing protocols and standards.
  • Monitor and document vital signs accurately.
  • Assist physicians during examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments.
  • Prepare and administer prescribed medications via various routes, ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Report any adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with established policies.
  • Provide intravenous therapy as required.
  • Manage wound care, including cleaning and dressing injuries.
  • Deliver essential bedside care to patients.
  • Ensure the availability of necessary medical supplies and equipment for patient care.
  • Report any suspected cases of abuse to the relevant authorities.
  • Initiate and implement patient education plans as directed by a physician.
  • Educate patients and their families on managing their conditions, including post-treatment care, nutrition, exercise, medication administration, and rehabilitation, while also providing referrals for additional healthcare services.
  • Exhibit professionalism while managing multiple urgent tasks efficiently.
  • Document all patient care information accurately and promptly in the appropriate formats.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in recognizing life-threatening dysrhythmias and participate in emergency response teams.
Qualifications:
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program with a valid nursing license in good standing.
  • At least one year of recent experience in a hospital trauma setting is required.
  • Current certifications in AHA BLS, ACLS, and PALS are mandatory.
  • Additional professional certifications such as TNCC and NIHSS are preferred.
