Patient Porter Position-Full-time/ Supporting-Audie Murphy VA Medical Center

We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Porter to join our team at the Audie Murphy VA Medical Center. As a Patient Porter, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional patient care and ensuring a positive experience for our patients and their families.
Key Responsibilities- Provide personalized support to patients and their families, ensuring a seamless and efficient experience throughout their visit.
- Transport patients safely and efficiently to various locations within the medical center, including inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and diagnostic areas.
- Assist patients with navigating the medical center, providing information and guidance as needed.
- Collaborate with healthcare staff to ensure patients receive timely and effective care.
- Participate in emergency situations, such as performing CPR and providing first aid as needed.
- Adhere to facility fall prevention guidelines and utilize safe patient handling and movement techniques.
- Utilize VISTA to verify appointment information and assist with transportation of discharging patients.
- Support the medical floor/units in transporting labs and assisting with Code Blues and DAART team responses.
- Provide postmortem care for transporting deceased patients to the morgue.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 6 months experience in a patient transporter role or equivalent experience in a direct patient care role.
- Must be a US Citizen or legal resident of the United States.
- Must be fluent in English, both spoken and written.
- Position requires being on feet for the majority of the shift and the ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to walk up to 10,000 steps per shift while pushing/pulling occupied wheelchairs or stretchers.
- Must be able to work in Microsoft Excel and handle a busy information desk.
- Must have a valid driver's license with no suspensions and be able to drive a golf cart.
- Must have an unrestricted driver's license in the state in which you will be working.
- Candidate cannot have any moving violations, at-fault accidents, or DUI/DWI arrests within the past three years.
- Experience working in a healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of VISTA and other medical software.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
