Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Porter to join our team at the Audie Murphy VA Medical Center. As a Patient Porter, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional patient care and ensuring a positive experience for our patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide personalized support to patients and their families, ensuring a seamless and efficient experience throughout their visit.
  • Transport patients safely and efficiently to various locations within the medical center, including inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and diagnostic areas.
  • Assist patients with navigating the medical center, providing information and guidance as needed.
  • Collaborate with healthcare staff to ensure patients receive timely and effective care.
  • Participate in emergency situations, such as performing CPR and providing first aid as needed.
  • Adhere to facility fall prevention guidelines and utilize safe patient handling and movement techniques.
  • Utilize VISTA to verify appointment information and assist with transportation of discharging patients.
  • Support the medical floor/units in transporting labs and assisting with Code Blues and DAART team responses.
  • Provide postmortem care for transporting deceased patients to the morgue.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 6 months experience in a patient transporter role or equivalent experience in a direct patient care role.
  • Must be a US Citizen or legal resident of the United States.
  • Must be fluent in English, both spoken and written.
  • Position requires being on feet for the majority of the shift and the ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to walk up to 10,000 steps per shift while pushing/pulling occupied wheelchairs or stretchers.
  • Must be able to work in Microsoft Excel and handle a busy information desk.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with no suspensions and be able to drive a golf cart.
  • Must have an unrestricted driver's license in the state in which you will be working.
  • Candidate cannot have any moving violations, at-fault accidents, or DUI/DWI arrests within the past three years.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of VISTA and other medical software.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
