Ultrasound Technologist Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Ultrasound Technologist to join our team at Optum. As an Ultrasound Technologist, you will be responsible for providing excellent patient care and creating a tranquil environment for patients to undergo ultrasound examinations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify anatomical orientation on all required images and ensure proper file identification.
  • Demonstrate competency in performing diagnostic ultrasound procedures and operating related equipment.
  • Greet patients, obtain history, and enter information into the computer system.
  • Scan according to guidelines and maintain logs.
  • Utilize sterile techniques to prevent contamination and maintain quality standards.
  • Responsible for all clinical aspects of the ultrasonography suite, including maintaining cleanliness and stocking medical supplies.
  • Assist in completing the accreditation process for the American College of Radiology (ACR) every three years.
  • Maintain CPR certification and observe patient vital signs during examinations.
  • Provide coverage as needed and provide instruction/mentoring to new hires.
  • Provide a positive patient experience and share information with patients about the procedure and follow-up steps.
  • Maintain communication with radiologists, patients, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Consistently submit images of diagnostic quality and perform quality assurance on images and equipment.
  • Contribute to efficient out-patient operations and maximize productivity.
  • Review each examination for technical accuracy and present completed examinations to radiologists.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and interact positively with employees to contribute to a collaborative work environment.
  • Meet or exceed deadlines and follow through on responsibilities.
  • Enhance professional growth and maintain certifications, registration, and active CMEs.
  • Educate patients about the procedure, equipment, and exam to ensure understanding and safety.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a course in Ultrasonic Technology.
  • RDMS Certification.
  • 2+ years of experience as an Ultrasound Technologist.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Demonstrated ability to use the department's computerized system and associated devices.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate or Baccalaureate degree in radiography, radiation therapy, or nuclear medicine.
  • 2+ years of experience as a General Radiologic Technologist.
