Position Overview

The Speech Therapist (ST) is an integral member of the healthcare team, responsible for delivering Speech Therapy services to patients in accordance with all relevant practice regulations.

The Speech Therapist will carry out responsibilities within the clinical practice standards set forth by the Department of Professional Regulation, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and the agency's policies, while working under the guidance of a physician and nursing supervisor to provide skilled Speech Therapy care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess the client's functional capabilities and hearing, recommending strategies to improve hearing ability.
  • Conduct initial and ongoing comprehensive evaluations of the client's needs, including Outcome and Assessment Information Set (OASIS) assessments.
  • Develop a Speech Therapy treatment plan in collaboration with the physician, revising it as necessary with their approval.
  • Contribute to the interdisciplinary client care plan as it relates to Speech Therapy.
  • Ensure the appropriateness of physician's orders and discuss any necessary modifications.
  • Communicate with team members and instruct them in speech pathology techniques applicable to the client.
  • Educate, supervise, and counsel the family and client regarding the complete Speech Therapy program and related issues at home.
  • Document all evaluation data, treatments, and client responses to interventions in a timely manner.
  • Oversee the Home Health Aide every 14 days when Speech Therapy is the sole professional discipline involved in the client's care.
  • Report to the physician regarding the client's reactions to treatment and any changes in condition.
  • Participate in the periodic review of the physician's treatment plan, keeping them informed of the patient's status and requesting additional orders as needed.
  • Maintain communication with the physician at least every 30 days or when changes occur regarding the client's status, obtaining additional orders if necessary.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of speech pathology interventions and update the client care plan as required.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Speech Therapy program or equivalent education.
  • Licensed as a Speech Therapist in the State of Florida.
  • Minimum of two years of clinical experience as a Speech Therapist.
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • Valid driver's license with a reliable and insured vehicle.
  • Exhibit good emotional health and the ability to tolerate physical demands such as standing, stooping, and bending; must comply with all agency regulations.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently with strong observational, judgment, and communication skills.
