Position Overview

The City of Tacoma's Environmental Services Department is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Civil Engineering Associate. Team Dynamics

As a member of the Science and Engineering Division, you will collaborate with a team focused on engineering, planning, and program management for the city's utilities. Your contributions will directly impact the design and execution of capital improvement projects, environmental remediation efforts, and asset management initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Your role will encompass a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
  • Conducting assessments of infrastructure conditions through advanced inspection techniques.
  • Assisting in the development of strategic plans for asset management and improvement projects.
  • Evaluating system capacities and collaborating with planning teams on technical inquiries.
  • Reviewing engineering plans and providing feedback to stakeholders.
  • Responding to inquiries from field personnel and the public regarding utility systems.
  • Performing hydraulic modeling to identify and address capacity issues.
  • Defining project scopes, estimating costs, and coordinating with various departments.
  • Managing contracts with external consultants to ensure project deliverables meet standards.
Qualifications

Minimum Education:
A Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field is required.

Licensing and Certifications:
  • A valid Washington State Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within six months of hire.
