We are seeking an experienced Senior Laser Systems Engineer to join our R&D team in Herndon, VA. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the implementation of formalized and rigorous systems engineering processes, practices, tools, and disciplines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to develop new technologies and laser systems.
  • Provide system-level oversight of product development, including review and approval of system and subsystem requirements.
  • Prepare Systems Engineering Master Plans (SEMP) and other technical documentation.
  • Reduce customer specifications and technical governing documents into design and test requirements.
  • Maintain and manage requirements baselines, including traceability between system, subsystem, and component specifications.
  • Maintain and manage internal and external interfaces through a formal interface management process.
  • Perform technology assessments and trade studies.
  • Conduct risk assessments and analysis.
  • Plan and conduct investigations and develop solutions to resolve technical issues.
  • Develop test processes, test equipment designs, test configuration set-ups, and systems integration using proven methodologies and techniques.
  • Design and support the execution of system and subsystem verification testing.
  • Support bid and proposal efforts and assist in the development of new business.
Requirements:
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, system engineering, or optics, with a master's degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 to 12 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in Systems Engineering with an emphasis in requirements development, test planning, test documentation, and systems integration, verification, and validation.
  • Experience developing and managing system and subsystem requirements flow down.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and implement systems engineering best practices and tools from the ground up.
  • Experience with systems engineering and requirements management software tools and model-based systems engineering (MBSE).
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical results and report problems through written and/or graphical formats.
  • Experience with space-based, electro-optical hardware is a plus.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
