Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Exercise Physiologist to join our team at Atrium Health. As an Exercise Physiologist, you will play a critical role in assessing, planning, and directing patient mobilization and exercise programs in an inpatient setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess patients for contraindications and readiness for mobilization and exercise by reviewing medical records.
  • Develop, implement, and perform patient mobilization and exercise programs.
  • Coordinate care with nursing or therapy services as appropriate.
  • Explain the role of mobilization to patients and families, verify orders, and confirm patient identity.
  • Perform mobilization of patients and aid in adaptive positioning to maximize safety and performance.
  • Monitor patients' performance and tolerance to mobility and exercise programs, adjusting plans as medically indicated.
  • Assess and measure for appropriate durable medical equipment.
  • Document daily treatment notes and patient/family education.
  • Notify nursing or providers of changes in patients' conditions, performance, and response to treatment.
  • Communicate patients' status to nursing, clinical staff, therapy services, nurse managers, or operations managers.
  • Coordinate care with patients' schedules and treatment.
  • Respond to emergency situations in a professional and prompt manner.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a Health/Fitness field required; prefer Exercise Physiology degree.
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Exercise Specialist certified by the American College of Sports Medicine or eligible to test for the same.
  • ACSM-CEP (Clinical Exercise Physiologist) or ACSM EP-C certification preferred.
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) from AHA required.
  • ACLS preferred.
  • 2 years of appropriate experience preferred.
Work Environment

The work environment is primarily indoors but occasionally outdoors.

Personal Protective Equipment such as gloves, goggles, gowns, and masks are sometimes required due to possible exposure to hazardous chemicals or blood and body fluids.
