As a Surgical Technologist at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in the surgical team by preparing and organizing the operating room, selecting and passing instruments during procedures, and maintaining aseptic conditions. You will work closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure a smooth and efficient surgical experience.
Key Responsibilities- Assist physicians during surgery, passing instruments and supplies as directed.
- Prepare and maintain the operating room, adhering to established policies and procedures.
- Assist with patient care during and after surgery, including positioning and draping the patient.
- Provide proper retraction of tissue and assist with controlling hemostasis.
- Assist with sponging, suctioning, and performing sponge, needle/sharp, and instrument counts.
- Prepare suture for closure of surgical incision and apply proper surgical dressing as directed by the physician.
- Recognize and respond to acute emergency situations, following established procedures and policies.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and maintain a clean and organized operating room.
- One year of operating room or military equivalent experience in a scrub role within the last two years or recent completion of an operating room training program.
- Surgical Technologist Certificate within six months of hire from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or National Center for Competency Testing Certificate - Technologist in Surgery within six months of hire.
- Basic Life Support certification.
