Education and Licensure
The Occupational Therapist must be a graduate of an occupational therapy school accredited by the Council of Medical Education of The A.M.A. and registered by the American Occupational Therapy Association. A current, unrestricted license in the state of practice is also required. Additionally, the candidate must have at least one year of current experience as an Occupational Therapist in a clinical setting.
Credentials and Experience
The ideal candidate must possess CPR certification and meet the health and other screening tests required by specific facilities and state regulations. A strong background in occupational therapy, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment are essential for success in this role.
Environmental Working Conditions
The Occupational Therapist will work in various client facility settings, which may involve exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious materials. The candidate must be able to maintain confidentiality relative to patient care and facility practices in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Representative Duties and Responsibilities
The Occupational Therapist will be responsible for evaluating and establishing goals based on patient's current level of functioning and potential for improvement. The candidate must plan for the patient's discharge, prepare discharge summaries and instructions, and provide patient care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that considers cultural diversity and age appropriateness. The Occupational Therapist must also maintain competency by participating in continuing education programs and meet state specific requirements.
