Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Physicist to join our Radiation Oncology Department at WVU Medicine. As a key member of our clinical team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective delivery of radiation therapy to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Treatment Planning and Delivery: Assist with treatment planning, development of computerized treatment planning, and dosimetry for Iridium, Cesium, and other isotopes as needed for Brachytherapy.
  2. Radiation Safety and Compliance: Oversee the use of ionizing radiation to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations. Conduct radiation protection surveys, perform calibration of x-ray equipment, and assist in the preparation and submission of documents to renew and amend hospital licenses.
  3. Calibration and Maintenance: Perform calibration of sealed sources, ensure periodic leak tests, and maintain accountability of sealed sources and therapeutic isotopes.
  4. Patient Care and Support: Assist technologists, dosimetrist, and chief medical physicist with patient set-ups, make periodic checks of radiotherapy charts, and design and/or obtain patient treatment aids.
  5. Collaboration and Communication: Work with Radiation Oncologists, Chief Therapist, Chief Medical Physicist, and Dosimetrist to develop new methods of treatment, maintain a professional working relationship with departmental associates, and respond to associate concerns in a timely manner.
Requirements
  1. Education and Certification: Master of Science degree in Physics, Radiation Physics, or equivalent, and certification in therapeutic radiological physics within 3 years of hire.
  2. Physical Demands: Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, and stooping during machine operation, frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, and feeling of patients during patient set-up, and ability to read and write legibly in English.
  3. Working Environment: Exposure to body fluids, human tissues, contagious diseases, sharps, and explosive gasses, ionizing and non-ionizing radiations, film processing chemicals, lead, tin, bismuth, and cadmium, cleaning agents and disinfectants, toxic fumes and odors, high stress, and constant interruptions.
