Job Summary:

This position is responsible for performing duties in support of the department's grounds maintenance operations. The purpose of this role is to operate a variety of equipment in support of department operations, ensuring safe and well-maintained buildings and grounds.

Key Responsibilities:
• Assist with grounds maintenance activities, including mowing grass, cutting weeds, clearing brush, and raking leaves.
• Plant trees, flowers, and shrubs, and trim trees and shrubs as needed.
• Collect litter from campus grounds and empty trash cans.
• Move office furniture and assist with setting up for special events.
• Capture and relocate nuisance animals.
• Apply herbicide and pesticide as required.
• Operate a variety of equipment, including a backhoe and dump truck.
• Operate hand and power tools, including chain saws, weed eaters, and lawn mowers.
• Clean up storm damage and assist with snow removal operations.
• Load and unload trucks, and transport materials and equipment to work sites.
• Provide support to other maintenance personnel as needed.

Requirements:
• Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance principles.
• Knowledge of trash compactor maintenance and operation principles.
• Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
• Skill in the operation of job-related tools, vehicles, and equipment.
• Skill in oral and written communication.

Work Environment:
The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, and grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
