Position Overview

As a key member of the healthcare team, the Graduate Respiratory Therapist will work under the guidance of a designated preceptor and/or licensed supervisor. This role involves the implementation and assessment of diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory services, aiding physicians in the management of patients with cardiopulmonary and related conditions. The therapist will also engage in patient education and provide technical support for respiratory care equipment.

Core Responsibilities

1. Deliver essential respiratory therapeutic services, including:
- Oxygen therapy
- Medical gas therapy
- Bronchodilator therapy
- Airway maintenance therapy
- Non-invasive ventilation (NIV)

2. Conduct diagnostic respiratory services and non-invasive monitoring, such as:
- Pulse oximetry
- Arterial blood gas procurement
- Capnography
- Pulmonary function testing
- Apnea screening
- Bronchoscopy assistance
- EKG procurement

3. Manage ventilators and administer therapeutic modalities, including:
- Non-invasive ventilation
- Arterial blood gas sampling and analysis
- Monitoring of oxygen use and aerosolized medications

4. Perform critical care procedures, which include:
- Airway management
- Resuscitation
- Mechanical ventilation
- Patient transport

5. Assess patients and recommend care plans in accordance with established protocols. Document patient interactions and educate patients and families regarding their health conditions and treatment strategies.

6. Maintain and sanitize equipment following infection control standards.

7. Troubleshoot and ensure the optimal functioning of respiratory devices.

Qualifications

- Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy
- CRT-Respiratory Therapist Certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required within 90 days
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association required upon hire
- State of Michigan Respiratory Therapist License required within 90 days

Work Environment

This position is full-time, requiring 36 hours per week on the night shift. The role involves variable days and every other weekend. Corewell Health is dedicated to fostering a safe and inclusive workplace for all team members and patients.
