Staff Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Staff Nurse to join our Labor and Delivery team at The University of Chicago Medicine. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide exceptional patient care and support to expectant mothers and their families during the most precious moments of their lives.
Key Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive nursing care to pregnant patients during the antenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum phases, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and assisting with pain management techniques.
- Assess and monitor fetal well-being using electronic fetal monitoring and other diagnostic tools, and promptly report any abnormalities to the provider.
- Assist providers during labor, delivery, and cesarean sections, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.
- Educate expectant patients and their families about childbirth, breastfeeding, newborn care, and postpartum recovery.
- Provide emotional support and encouragement to laboring patients, helping them cope with pain, anxiety, and stress.
- Advocate for the needs and preferences of laboring mothers, ensuring that their birth plans are respected whenever possible.
- Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team, including obstetricians, neonatologists, and lactation consultants, to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care.
- Perform postpartum assessments and provide care for both birthing parent and newborns in the immediate postpartum period.
- Assist with newborn screenings, vaccinations, and breastfeeding support as needed.
- Document all patient interactions, assessments, and interventions accurately and in a timely manner, in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to maintain and enhance clinical skills and knowledge.
- Graduate of an NLN accredited School of Nursing.
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
- Current Illinois RN license.
- Active BLS certification.
- Preferred qualifications include Labor and Delivery and/or Surgical Scrub RN experience.
