Role Responsibilities:
  • Deliver compassionate care as part of a dedicated team of nurses in a 41-bed inpatient unit specializing in hematology, oncology, bone marrow transplant (BMT), and palliative care.
  • Provide nursing care for critically ill patients, including those undergoing advanced therapies such as bone marrow and stem cell transplants, as well as end-of-life care for patients with complex disease processes like leukemia, lymphoma, and solid tumors.
  • Administer chemotherapy, assist in bone marrow transplant procedures, perform bone marrow biopsies, manage blood product transfusions, access central lines and ports, and conduct comprehensive patient assessments.
  • Engage in innovative, evidence-based therapies and research initiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects and lead initiatives for practice enhancement.
  • Develop expertise as an oncology RN through formal education in hematologic malignancies, oncologic emergencies, bone marrow transplant, palliative care, and chemotherapy certification.

Qualifications:

Education:
Preferred - Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Experience:
Minimum - Six months of nursing experience or current participation in UW Health's Nurse Residency Program with successful completion of the Nurse Residency Orientation on a similar unit.
Preferred - Relevant RN experience.

Licenses and Certifications:
Minimum - Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Wisconsin or a license from a jurisdiction that has adopted the nurse licensure compact. Current CPR/BLS certification.
Preferred - Relevant certification.
