As the conservation division of Mandai Wildlife Group, we closely collaborate with the Group to adopt comprehensive conservation strategies that integrate both ex situ and in situ conservation efforts.

Role Overview

This position is part of the Southeast Asia (SEA) Regional Resource Centre (RRC) of the International Union for Conservation of Nature's (IUCN) Species Survival Commission (SSC) Conservation Planning Specialist Group (CPSG), hosted by Mandai Nature.

The role entails collaboration with internal teams and external conservation partners on various species conservation planning initiatives throughout Southeast Asia.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and coordinate multiple CPSG-style conservation planning projects undertaken by the SEA RRC.
  • Assist in establishing and managing a network of conservation planning experts under the CPSG SEA RRC framework.
  • Promote the application of CPSG tools (such as risk assessments, population modeling, strategic planning, etc.) among conservation practitioners in Southeast Asia.
  • Organize and conduct multi-stakeholder workshops, both in-person and virtually (using platforms like Zoom, Teams, etc.), focused on species conservation planning.
  • Compile, edit, and disseminate summaries, reports, and written plans resulting from various meetings and workshops.
Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Ecology, Wildlife/Biodiversity Conservation, Environmental Sciences, or related fields; advanced degrees are preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in ecological projects is required.
  • A passion for and ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of individuals from various backgrounds.
  • Ability to manage relationships with professionalism, empathy, and neutrality.
  • Experience in designing and facilitating meeting processes, group decision-making processes, and species planning workshops is advantageous.
  • Strong initiative, attention to detail, creativity, and excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Proficiency in analytical skills and understanding of multi-stakeholder management.
  • Preferred candidates will have training in CPSG's course on Facilitating Species Conservation Planning Workshops.
  • Ability to enhance facilitation skills through mentorship.
  • Project management experience and proven administrative capabilities are preferred.
