Lead Recreational Therapist

Responsibilities:
  • Complete Activity Therapy assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Participate in Master Treatment planning and provide input towards treatment plan updates.
  • Provide therapeutic recreation and expressive therapy groups, including group facilitation and training.
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment, overseeing the maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Support departmental goals by offering and accepting constructive feedback, demonstrating healthy boundaries and modifying behavior in response to feedback.
  • Work with interdisciplinary leadership team to support rules and expectations, communicating plans for activities in advance and bringing concerns or input in support of the therapeutic milieu.
  • Accurately document progress in Weekly Progress toward Treatment Objectives and Recreation Specialist Weekly Progress Note.
  • Carry out personnel management activities associated with direct staff supervision, including screening and selection, orientation, training and development, performance management and evaluation, and employee relations functions.
  • Lead the recreation specialist internship program, including acting as the site coordinator and outlining intern responsibilities and evaluation.
  • Provide regular training to program staff to improve resident engagement skills and therapeutic outcomes.
  • Facilitate recreation program development, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement efforts.
Qualifications:
  • Clinical Expertise: Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, humanities, social work, or a related therapeutic discipline field.
  • Licensure: State of Alaska CTRS Preferred.
  • Therapeutic Skills: Proficiency in providing psychotherapeutic services.
  • Communication: Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
