Nuclear Medicine Technologist Job Summary:

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is a vital member of the imaging team at Intermountain Health Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. This role performs PET/CT procedures under a physician's guidance, ensuring compassionate patient care and adherence to safety protocols.

This position requires specialized training, certification, and experience in Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT technologies. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.

Scope of Responsibilities:

This role includes responsibilities across various facilities and departments, as assigned by Imaging Services leadership. Temporary shift assignments may be required. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of processes, equipment, and procedures to safely perform Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT procedures independently, regularly, and frequently.

Job Essentials:

  • Radiation safety protocols: Performing proper handling, measurement, calibration, and administration of radioactive sources and radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Radiopharmaceutical management: Receiving, documenting, handling, storing, and administering radiopharmaceuticals in Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT.
  • Patient preparation and verification: Ensuring proper patient identification, verifying orders, and preparing patients for exams.
  • Imaging procedures: Performing Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT examinations per departmental protocol, demonstrating competence in scanning parameters, and ensuring the appropriate radioactive material is given to the correct patient through the proper route for imaging and treatment purposes.
  • Infection control and sterile techniques: Practicing appropriate infection control and sterile techniques during procedures.
  • Clinical and technical competency: Maintaining competency in all clinical and technical functions of the job.
  • Compliance and documentation: Following State Division of Radiation Control, NRC, and Intermountain policy and procedure, including clinical documentation, billing, and electronic medical workflows.

Shift Details:

This is a full-time (40 hours) position with 4 - 10 hour shifts, typically between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm or 6:00 am and 4:00 pm.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of a formal Nuclear Med Tech training program.
  • ARRT NM or NMTCB Registration.
  • Current state Radiology Tech License.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
  • One year of Nuclear Medicine experience.
  • One year of PET/CT experience.

Experience can be acquired concurrently; student hour experience may count. Experience is at the discretion of hiring leader.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CT experience.
