We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Assistant to join our team at Optima Dermatology. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our dermatologists in delivering high-quality services.
Key Responsibilities- Pre-Procedure Preparation: Prepare exam rooms for patient use by cleaning and restocking supplies, and preparing procedure trays as needed.
- Patient Support: Escort patients to exam rooms, take vital signs, and interview patients to assess their needs. Record reason for visit, current medications, and take temperature as necessary.
- Procedure Assistance: Assist physicians and other providers with patient procedures such as suture removal, wart and mole removal, minor surgeries, etc.
- Specimen Preparation: Prepare specimens for analysis by packaging and labeling them appropriately, completing requisition forms, and contacting testing facilities as needed.
- Scheduling and Referrals: Schedule on-site and off-site diagnostic tests and procedures, and facilitate referrals to other physicians by phoning their offices and making appointments.
- Communication and Coordination: Contact hospitals and outside sources regarding lab results, x-ray results, and ER reports; phone pharmacies to authorize prescriptions; contact nursing homes regarding patient orders; and return patient calls with physician recommendations.
- Inventory Management: Take manual inventory of drugs, check expiration dates, and order replenishments as needed. Order supplies for the back office as necessary.
- Sanitation and Safety: Disinfect exam rooms and lab, and straighten the reception area daily.
- Confidentiality and Teamwork: Perform all duties with respect for patient confidentiality and safety, and communicate with physicians and office managers on any issues vital to the practice's success.
- Experience: Minimum of one year of previous experience in a dermatology medical office required.
- Licensure: Licensed medical assistant or further nursing degree required.
- Skills: Demonstrated ability in taking patient vitals, injection/immunization procedures, charting and documentation, exam room preparation, infectious waste handling, sterile techniques, and routine lab procedures and collection. Strong oral and written communication skills, with ability to work with peers in a team situation.
