Physician-Scientist in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine

About the Opportunity:
The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking a talented physician-scientist to join our Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy and Sleep Medicine. As a key member of our team, you will contribute to our expanding portfolio of research and engage in our clinical mission. Our current areas of emphasis include interstitial lung diseases, lung cancer, cystic fibrosis, critical care, and more. You will have access to a robust clinical trials unit and new state-of-the-art laboratory facilities. Potential collaborations with Pulmonary faculty or other Departments at MUSC will be recognized as additional strengths.
Responsibilities:
As a physician-scientist, you will be responsible for leading an independent research program with high likelihood of sustained extramural funding. You will also participate in clinical activities, including patient care and teaching. Your research focus should align with our Division's areas of emphasis. You must have a MD, MD/PhD or equivalent and have demonstrated the ability or future potential to lead an independent research program. In special circumstances, applicants with PhD only may be considered. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience.
Requirements:
MD or MD/PhD board certified (or board eligible) in Pulmonary. Ability to perform job functions in an upright position. Ability to work indoors. Ability to work in confined/cramped spaces. Ability to fully use both hands/arms. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected. Ability to hear and understand whispered conversations at a distance of 3 feet. Must be able to maintain bi-lateral hand movement skills. Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. Ability to be qualified physically (by medical personnel) for respirator use, initially and annually. Ability to maintain a valid drivers license. Computer literacy. Ability to work rotating shifts. Ability to work overtime as required. Ability to learn and use new processes, tools and equipment as required.
