Key ResponsibilitiesThe individual in this role will undertake a range of routine and semi-skilled tasks related to specific assignments within designated Departments and/or Divisions.
The position involves performing manual labor duties for the City, including:
- Collaborating with and receiving guidance from the assigned Foreman or higher-class Laborers on specific tasks.
- Executing all necessary manual tasks to fulfill work orders.
- Maintaining proficiency in the use of tools and light equipment pertinent to assigned work.
Street Division, Public Works Department:
- Conducting maintenance and repairs on the City's streets and roadways.
- Operating a dump truck with a manual transmission.
- Responding to emergency situations, including snow removal.
- Enforcing City ordinances relevant to the Street Division.
Sanitation and Health Division, Public Works Department:
- Managing the capture of stray animals that may pose a public nuisance or health risk.
- Providing guidance to residents on pest control measures.
- Assisting residents with rodent control and baiting.
- Supporting the operation and upkeep of the kennel, ensuring a safe and humane environment for all animals.
- Maintaining accurate records related to animal adoptions and incidents.
- Familiarizing oneself with City Ordinances and Health Division policies.
- Investigating violations concerning trash, debris, and weeds on properties.
- Issuing advisory and warning letters as necessary.
- Ensuring compliance with spay/neuter regulations.
- Performing landscaping tasks such as cutting grass and clearing abandoned properties.
- Participating in emergency call-outs as required.
- Handling inter-office and door-to-door deliveries as needed.
Park Maintenance, Parks & Recreation Department:
- Maintaining park areas, including mowing and upkeep of sports fields.
- Conducting inspections and routine maintenance of park facilities.
- Performing custodial duties and minor repairs as needed.
- Assisting in the setup and takedown of equipment for recreational programs.
- Keeping records of completed tasks and maintenance activities.
Education and Experience: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. The ability to effectively engage with the public and communicate clearly is essential.
Licenses and Certifications: A valid driver's license is required. Health Division employees must obtain a Class 'B' Commercial Driver's License within six months of hiring, along with specific endorsements. Certification as a Public Health Officer is also required for Health Division roles.
