About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented HVAC Controls Engineer Intern to join our team at Southland Industries. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to work alongside our experienced engineers and gain hands-on experience in the field of HVAC design and building automation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design and operations of HVAC systems, including mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Support product and service training to customers, providing feedback on problem evaluation and resolution.
  • Perform low to medium complex software design and programming, trial runs, and investigative tests.
  • Attend pre-booking meetings to gain knowledge of sales estimates and project scopes.
  • Analyze plans, specifications, and contracts to determine system requirements.
  • Select products, sizes, types, and location placement to ensure products meet specification requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough project documentation and redlines.
  • Support owner training as required by the project.
  • Work with engineering groups to create and/or verify point databases.
  • Create/review job-specific programming via computer for various systems.
  • Verify point databases and programming operations are consistent with scope of work.
  • Back up data from data servers and/or create automated backup procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve inconsistencies in functions or sequence of operations.
  • Participate in final inspection and testing, assure customer acceptance, and conduct training for end-user customers on system operations.
Requirements
  • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong work ethic, initiative, and drive to get the job done.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to be resourceful and resilient in a fast-paced environment.
  • Quick learner, seeks answers on their own.
