Urban Forestry Assistant

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Urban Forestry Technician to join our team at the City of Sun Prairie, WI. As a key member of our Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department, you will assist the City Forester with various urban forestry projects, including tree care activities, planting, and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities- Assist the City Forester with tree removal procedures, pruning, and planting.
- Operate various forestry tools and equipment, including chainsaws, brush cutters, and chippers.
- Conduct tree and planting site inventories, and assist with ecological restoration activities.
- Perform snow removal and park maintenance activities as needed.
- Assist with special event support and recreational programming.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid non-probationary Wisconsin driver's license.
- Knowledge of proper pruning practices and experience in tree identification.
- Ability to work independently and without direct supervision, with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs., and perform work in all types of inclement weather.
- Working towards a degree in Urban Forestry or Natural Resources preferred.
- Opportunity to work on a variety of urban forestry projects and gain hands-on experience.
- Flexible scheduling with opportunities for overtime pay.
- Opportunity to cross-train in ecological restoration projects, invasive species management, and parks maintenance.
