The Sonographer Specialist plays a crucial role in executing a range of specialized technical tasks in Diagnostic Ultrasound, employing high-frequency sound waves to assist healthcare professionals in identifying anatomical irregularities.


Responsibilities:
A typical day for a Sonographer Specialist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Conducting procedures in accordance with departmental protocols, ensuring exams are completed within designated timeframes.
  • Performing essential clerical duties, utilizing systems such as EPIC, PACS, Teletracking, and other relevant computer applications.
  • Executing portable ultrasound examinations.
  • Carrying out a variety of intricate technical tasks in Diagnostic Ultrasound, including assisting physicians with ultrasound-guided interventional procedures and color-flow ultrasound as necessary.
  • Preparing and organizing medical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Preparing patients for diagnostic procedures, explaining the processes, and positioning them for optimal anatomical views.
  • Assessing the technical quality of images, obtaining and processing images of pathological conditions in line with established procedures.
  • Maintaining ultrasound records, archiving and de-archiving data as required, and documenting numerical readings on patient charts.
  • Calibrating, cleaning, and performing routine maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal functionality, as well as sterilizing instruments and replenishing supplies as needed.
  • Providing technical guidance and instruction to students, staff, and medical residents.
  • Welcoming all patients upon their arrival for examinations, adhering to A.I.D.E.T. standards.
  • Managing scheduled shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Being available for overtime as necessary to ensure continuous quality patient care.
  • Participating in on-call assignments as required by departmental policies.
  • Complying with policies regarding Employee ID, Standards of Behavior, Attendance, and Punctuality.
  • Recognizing the needs of the patient population served and tailoring care accordingly, considering factors such as age, culture, language, and sensory impairments.
  • Upholding the standards outlined in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.
  • Performing additional duties and projects as assigned.
  • Adhering to Hackensack Meridian Health's organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications:

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound program.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • At least one year of clinical experience in ultrasound.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certification.
  • AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.

Working Conditions:
Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 50 lbs., and stand for a minimum of 6 hours a day.
