Southwest Leadership Academy Charter School is a forward-thinking institution dedicated to providing exceptional education to students in the heart of southwest Philadelphia.
We are seeking an accomplished Special Education Teacher to join our Upper School team, who can drive academic achievement and foster growth in children from high-poverty communities and/or those with special needs.
This role offers a competitive salary based on education and experience, ranging from $55K to $75K annually.
About UsOur school was founded to address the need for community access to leadership-based education. We support over 600 students in grades K-8, leveraging research from the world-renowned Gurian Institute around socio-emotional learning and differentiation between the sexes.
As a teacher at Southwest Leadership Academy, you will have the opportunity to work with a collaborative team to create a consistent learning experience for students, facilitate their progress and growth toward stated objectives, and contribute to the development of leaders who can positively impact and contribute to the school and community.
Responsibilities- Implement instruction according to the school's educational goals and objectives by focusing on high standards and achievement for all students.
- Instruct classes as assigned, leveraging school curriculum and texts, and provide timely and actionable feedback to students regarding their assignments and assessments.
- Develop and implement lesson and unit plans to support effective delivery of instruction, encourage students to set and maintain standards of behavior needed to achieve, and maintain a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Continuously evaluate student progress consistent with school-established goals and policies, maintain student records and other pertinent data as determined by the school, and actively participate in all professional development, team planning, and data analysis meetings as needed.
We value innovative teaching methodologies, such as team teaching, demonstrations, simulations, and consultations, and require outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills, the ability to critically assess challenges and identify effective instructional/behavioral solutions, and exceptional classroom management skills.
Requirements- A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and an appropriate Instructional I or Instructional II Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate, Temporary Teaching Certificate, or valid out-of-state license for the given subject area.
- Preferred qualifications include a Master's Degree in education or content areas (e.g., Math, Science) and two years of urban teaching experience.
