California River Restoration Manager

American Rivers is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to fill the position of California River Restoration Manager. This role will focus on developing and implementing innovative projects that protect and restore source watersheds in the Sierra Nevada to increase climate and water supply resilience, support natural biodiversity, and benefit local and downstream communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee river restoration projects, including managing subcontractors, coordinating with multiple stakeholders, securing funding and permits, managing budgets and schedules, and overseeing construction.
- Design and conduct monitoring plans, collect and analyze data on restoration project performance, and communicate successes and lessons learned to diverse audiences.
- Collaborate with state and federal agencies, Native American tribes, non-profit partners, and private interests to accelerate restoration and improve watershed management policies and practices in California.
- Develop and manage on-the-ground restoration projects from conception to implementation, including securing funding and permits, managing budgets and schedules for state and federal grants, coordinating with multiple agencies, partners, and consultants.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as environmental science, ecology, or a related field, and a minimum of 2 years of experience in on-the-ground project management, including grant budget management, contracting, and overseeing consultant teams.
- Experience leading watershed improvement, meadow/river/creek restoration, and similar projects/programs, knowledge of watershed processes, and California water resource issues.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice, ability to develop partnerships, proposals, budgets, and strategies to accelerate river restoration and conservation in California.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, public speaking ability, and ability to effectively communicate with partners and agency representatives.
Compensation:
The estimated salary range for this position is $68,640 to $70,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. Benefits include health, dental, and life insurance, a retirement plan, training budget, sick leave, paid holidays, four weeks of paid vacation, paid sabbaticals every seven years, and a 3% retirement match.
