At Children's National Medical Center, we are committed to providing exceptional care to our patients and families. We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Healthcare Assistant to join our team in Pediatrics.

About the Role

This is a full-time position working directly with Registered Nurses and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care. The successful candidate will work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide basic nursing care activities, maintain a safe and clean patient environment, and assist with administrative tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Collect data and accurately document information for meaningful use, including chief complaint, current medications, allergies, tobacco/smoking history, and smoke exposure.
  • Obtain vital signs, height, weight, and head circumference, and orient family members to the clinic environment.
  • Recognize abnormalities and report them to the Registered Nurse or Provider.
  • Provide basic nursing care, such as nourishment, ambulation, and discharge escorting.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies, and ensure they are in working order.
  • Collect specimens for testing and perform specific testing per individual clinic assignment.
  • Inform patients/guardians of collection processes and offer health resources.
  • Meet Joint Commission/DOH documentation requirements and complete the clean sweep tool weekly.
Patient Flow and Unit Efficiency
  • Help maintain a neat and orderly environment.
  • Assist with exam room preparation and prioritize tasks.
  • Obtain equipment and supplies and maintain PAR levels.
  • Monitor waiting rooms and keep families informed of delays.
Communication
  • Contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Greet patients/families and adjust communication style to meet their needs.
Laboratory Competency
  • Perform quality control protocols and troubleshoot issues.
  • Process specimens by centrifugation, sorting, and storage.
  • Investigate and handle improperly labeled specimens.
  • Answer general information and specimen requirement questions.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in an acute healthcare setting, preferably in pediatrics.
  • C.N.A, PCT, or EMT Certification.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
Salary and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary of $45,000-$60,000 per year, depending on experience, plus benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) matching, and paid time off.
