Job Summary

Under general supervision, the Ultrasound Technologist will perform routine diagnostic breast ultrasound imaging. The ideal candidate will assist with interventional breast procedures at the direction of the interpreting Radiologist. Additionally, the candidate will participate in training and direction of other employees/students with knowledge of departmental protocols and responsibilities. The Ultrasound Technologist will identify and address individual patient requirements relative to their emotional, physical or age-related needs pertaining to their imaging. The candidate will be willing to perform other necessary duties as requested.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate supportive and understanding behavior when in contact with patients and team members.
  • Effectively and accurately relay findings with the interpreting radiologist in order to assist in final diagnosis/recommendations.
  • Possess knowledge of routine and complex breast ultrasound procedures including biopsies and of all ultrasound equipment systems and related accessories.
  • Understand patient positioning, machines controls and anatomical factors and how they relate to/affect image quality in order to produce optimal quality ultrasound images.
  • Ability to review prior breast/radiology images and/or reports and correlate relevant findings on current study and adhere to ACR breast ultrasound standards in regards to labeling and measurements.
  • Recognize the significance of all visualized structures and identify and differentiate artifacts from normal and pathologic processes and document findings relevant to diagnosis and ensure appropriate documentation where necessary.
  • Identify patients and follow time-out procedure per established department guidelines and adhere to infection control policy.
  • Possess knowledge of department information and image storage systems including PACS, EPIC/Radiant.
Requirements

Graduate of an approved US department of Education Ultrasound/Imaging program, or equivalent on the job training. RDMS certified in Abdomen and OB/GYN and 1 year experience required. Current CPR-BLS certification required by time of appointment. Breast (BR) certification preferred, if not BR certified, will be required to become certified within 1 year of appointment.

B.S degree and experience in breast ultrasound and breast ultrasound biopsy procedures preferred.

Monday - Friday 8:00 - 4:30. Start time can change an hour earlier or later depending on departmental needs.
