Position Overview

ROLE SUMMARY

The Spiritual Care Provider offers essential spiritual guidance and support tailored to the beliefs and desires of patients and their families, in alignment with the policies and procedures of Arkansas Hospice, Inc. This role may also involve engaging in community outreach initiatives as deemed appropriate.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications: Must be a graduate from an accredited seminary or theological institution, or possess relevant certification in hospital or pastoral care ministry.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

A minimum of three years of experience in pastoral care is required, ideally within a hospice, home health, hospital, or similar healthcare environment.

ADDITIONAL CRITERIA

Flexibility in work hours may be necessary. A valid driver's license, along with vehicle and insurance, is required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Deliver direct spiritual support and counsel to patients and families, respecting their individual beliefs.
  2. Address spiritual and bereavement needs of patients and families as identified through assessments.
  3. Collaborate with staff, clergy, and community organizations to enhance awareness of the spiritual needs of those facing terminal illness and loss.
  4. Actively participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to evaluate and address the spiritual needs of patients and families.
  5. Create a spiritual care plan based on initial assessments.
  6. Engage with the bereavement program as necessary, providing follow-up services and participating in memorial services.
  7. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of visits and interactions with patients and families.
  8. Work in conjunction with clergy or designated representatives of patients and families as required.
  9. Facilitate or arrange memorial services as appropriate.
  10. Establish and nurture a network of clergy for delegated aspects of spiritual care.
  11. Contribute to the orientation of new hospice staff and assist in ongoing training for clinical personnel.
  12. Engage in performance improvement initiatives.
  13. Provide educational sessions for community clergy and lay representatives as requested.
  14. Uphold confidentiality at all times.
  15. Exhibit exceptional customer service skills, actively seeking to assist patients, families, and colleagues.
  16. Follow guidance from supervisors and seek clarification when necessary, working independently as required.
  17. Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures.
