Job Description

This position is responsible for ensuring that the hospital's infrastructure systems meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, consultants, contractors, and clinical staff to plan, design, and evaluate various systems, including control, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, central utility, conveyance, and medical gas systems.


Responsibilities
  • INFRASTRUCTURE MASTER PLAN DEVELOPMENT:
    • Develop and implement the infrastructure master plan for UMMC facilities.
  • ENGINEERING DESIGN STANDARDS DEVELOPMENT:
    • Develop, maintain, and update engineering design standards for the Medical Center.
  • CAPITAL PLANNING ASSISTANCE:
    • Assist the Senior Hospital Engineer, Senior Staff Architect, and Director of Project Development with capital planning.
  • CONSTRUCTION QUALITY CONTROL:
    • Review completed work for professional adequacy, serviceability, maintainability, and conformance with construction documents and hospital standards.
  • COMMISSIONING AND RECOMMISSIONING SERVICES:
    • Monitor, inspect, and evaluate new construction and existing physical plant systems (mechanical, electrical, energy, life safety, medical gas, and building systems).

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, applicants should have a bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering and at least five years of experience in healthcare or high-performance central plant systems engineering design, planning, or plant operations. A registered professional engineer's license in Maryland is preferred.
