Job Summary

The Physical Therapist will assess, plan, and implement rehabilitative programs to improve mobility, relieve pain, and increase strength in patients suffering from disease or injury.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review physician referrals and patient medical records to determine diagnosis and physical therapy treatment required.
  • Perform and document initial exams, evaluating data to identify problems and determine a diagnosis prior to intervention.
  • Plan, prepare, and carry out individually designed programs of physical treatment to maintain, improve, or restore physical functioning.
  • Record prognosis, treatment, response, and progress in patient charts or enter information into computers.
  • Administer manual exercises, traction, or electrotherapeutic modalities to relieve pain, increase patient strength, or decrease or prevent deformity or crippling.
  • Evaluate effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit.
  • Test and measure patient strength, motor development, and function, sensory perception, functional capacity, and respiratory and circulatory efficiency and record data.
  • Instruct patients and families in treatment procedures to be continued at home.
  • Confer with patients, medical practitioners, and appropriate others to plan, implement, and assess intervention programs.
  • Document anticipated progress and plans for reevaluation/reassessment.
Requirements
  • Ability to monitor and assess patient performance and plan improvements or take corrective action as indicated.
  • Ability to communicate with patients, caregivers, coworkers, supervisors, and other medical staff professionally.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from patients, caregivers, managers, and other staff.
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures.
  • Ability to teach patients or caregivers how to perform exercises or tasks.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write fluently in English.
  • Ability to act professionally at all times.
  • Self-directed and able to use appropriate clinical judgment.
  • In-depth knowledge of standards of practice within the profession.
Education and Experience
  • Successful completion of a physical therapy program at a school of physical therapy approved by the American Physical Therapy Association or the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals of American Medical Association or the committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation of the American Medical Association.
  • A minimum of one year (1) of physical therapy experience desired.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Current and unencumbered Massachusetts state license to practice physical therapy.
  • Current CPR certification.
