Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Shift Operations Manager to join our team at Dartmouth Dining Services. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of our Courtyard Café, ensuring smooth service delivery, customer satisfaction, and adherence to safety and sanitation procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and participate in the day-to-day shift operations, including opening and closing procedures.
  • Independently manage the Courtyard Café on a regularly scheduled basis, with revenue in excess of $3 million and customer counts in excess of 550,000.
  • Verify cash in safe and register banks, and set up RDT cash registers.
  • Assign initial work and reassign workforce as required to balance changes in customer service needs and timing of food preparation.
  • Enforce health and sanitation policies and procedures, ensuring proper handling and preparation of food items and maintaining quality and portion control standards.
  • Ensure observance of liquor license laws, when appropriate.
  • Respond to customer comments and complaints, seeking to satisfy customer needs and referring issues to management when necessary.
  • Oversee cleanliness and general appearance of the café.
  • Count cash and close out shift sales, preparing reports on receipts.
Requirements
  • Four- plus years of general food service experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license and be qualified under the terms of the Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced food operation and make decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to deal effectively with customers and supervise employees.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to shift attention to changing details and maintain accuracy and timing of food preparation and work scheduling.
  • Knowledge of sanitation regulations and policies, and the ability to obtain a sanitation certification.
  • Knowledge of computer operations and familiarity with remote data terminals.
  • Communicates respectfully with a diverse community.
Working Conditions

This position requires working in a fast-paced food service environment, with frequent exposure to food, cleaning chemicals, and other potential allergens. The ability to lift up to 25 pounds and stand for long periods is also required.
