Position Summary
The Mechanical Estimator will play a crucial role in the preparation and analysis of cost estimates for mechanical systems. This position requires a keen understanding of project specifications and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Evaluation: Analyze project specifications, drawings, and related documents to ascertain the scope of work and determine material and labor needs.
- Cost Calculation: Generate comprehensive cost estimates for mechanical systems, encompassing labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor expenses, and overhead costs.
- Bid Development: Create and submit detailed bid proposals for mechanical projects, ensuring precision and adherence to client specifications and company standards.
- Vendor Coordination: Request and assess bids from vendors and subcontractors, negotiate pricing, and select the most reliable and cost-effective options.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks and challenges in project execution, integrating contingency plans and risk mitigation strategies into estimates.
- Scheduling: Formulate preliminary project schedules, highlighting key milestones, resource allocation, and critical path activities.
- Stakeholder Communication: Maintain effective communication with clients, project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to clarify project requirements and address any concerns.
- Cost Review: Conduct post-bid evaluations and analyze project costs to pinpoint areas for improvement and enhance future estimating accuracy.
- Documentation Management: Keep organized records of all estimates, bids, and supporting documentation for reference and auditing purposes.
- Market Awareness: Stay updated on industry trends, pricing changes, and new technologies to ensure competitive and precise estimating practices.
- Education: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in mechanical estimating within the construction or engineering sector.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with estimating software (e.g., QuickBooks, ProEst, Bluebeam), MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project), and CAD software.
- Analytical Abilities: Strong analytical and mathematical skills, capable of interpreting technical documents and performing detailed cost analyses.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to present complex information clearly and persuasively.
- Detail Orientation: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in preparing estimates and bid proposals.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time management skills, capable of managing multiple projects and meeting tight deadlines.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify issues, evaluate options, and implement effective solutions under pressure.
- Team Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including engineers, project managers, and procurement specialists.
