Medical Bill Reviewer I Job Description

Sentry Insurance is seeking a highly skilled Medical Bill Reviewer I to join our PIP Medical Bill Review Unit. As a Medical Bill Reviewer I, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of medical bills in accordance with state regulations and department objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review medical bills submitted to our Personal Injury Protection (PIP) department to ensure correct billing and payment practices.
  • Utilize knowledge of medical coding requirements, including CPT/HCPCS/Revenue codes, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding, and CMS-1500/UB-04 forms to process and pay medical bills.
  • Perform well in a production-based environment, reviewing state rules and regulations regarding timely and accurate processing of PIP medical correspondence via verbal and written communications with medical providers, vendors, and internal customer inquiries relating to medical bill processing.
  • Maintain superior customer service and work independently with analytical and decision-making skills.

Requirements:

  • Technical diploma or Associate Degree in Health Informatics/Health Information/Medical Coding preferred.
  • 1-3+ years of related work experience in a medical office or insurance environment beneficial.
  • PC knowledge, including Excel, keyboarding, math aptitude, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to work independently.
  • High level of communication, customer service, and telephone skills required.
  • Ability to work within deadlines, maintain confidentiality, and work with detail and a high level of accuracy is essential.
