About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to support our Regional Transmission Planning Services business unit as a Transmission Planning Intern. This is an excellent opportunity for a student studying Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Systems Engineering to gain hands-on experience and contribute to the reliability and security of the power grid.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the verification of transmission planning models, including power flow and transient stability.
  • Learn the principles behind transmission modeling and the need for completing these types of analysis to assure transmission system reliability.
  • Become familiar with requirements specific to the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and how these requirements have shaped the electric utility industry.
  • Participate in meetings with WPP's member utilities to gain knowledge of broader transmission planning efforts in the Western Interconnect.
Requirements
  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student in an ABET accredited Electrical Engineering program.
  • Pursuing a BS/MS in Engineering, with a focus on Power Systems Engineering.
  • Must have completed at least one upper-level Power Systems course.
  • Grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  • Exposure to one or more software programs utilized for power systems modeling.
  • Exposure to programming language, such as Python or C++.

What We Offer
  • A competitive hourly rate of $20.70 to $22.50.
  • A remote work arrangement, with the requirement to reside in one of the following states: OR, WA, ID, MT, AZ, CA, CO, NV, NM, UT, WI, WY.
  • A flexible schedule of 10-20 hours per week, depending on schedule and availability.
