**Senior Child Protection Investigator**
This role involves conducting thorough investigations in various counties facing a significant number of unresolved cases. The responsibilities will encompass both new and ongoing investigations that require immediate attention.
The investigator will engage in high-stakes cases and provide expert consultation and support to colleagues dealing with intricate protective service matters.
This position also includes mentoring and training for investigation personnel.
Travel Requirements:
This role necessitates extensive travel, approximately 90% of the time, with a minimum of four days a week spent traveling out of the designated region based on deployment needs.
The position is flexible and can be based in any region within the department's offices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts investigations into allegations of child abuse or neglect to evaluate the risk to children by interviewing parents, family members, and other relevant individuals; assessing the living conditions; and collecting information from various sources.
- Determines necessary actions to mitigate immediate threats to child safety, which may include testifying in court for emergency protective measures, placing children in alternative care, or referring families for urgent therapeutic interventions or community resources.
- Documents all interactions, findings, and narratives in the Information Management Protecting Adults and Children System within mandated timelines.
- Fosters and maintains collaborative relationships between Child Protective Investigations staff and law enforcement, judicial authorities, legal representatives, medical professionals, and community organizations.
- Participates in training sessions, meetings, and case discussions.
- Performs additional duties as required to support unit operations.
- Encourages and exemplifies respect for cultural diversity among colleagues and all professional interactions.
- Maintains regular attendance in accordance with agency policies.
- Understanding of child development principles.
- Familiarity with family dynamics.
- Knowledge of Child Protective Investigation policies and procedures.
- Proficiency in establishing and nurturing effective working relationships.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with CPS staff, law enforcement, and community stakeholders.
- Competence in investigating and resolving complex child abuse or neglect cases.
- Capability to assess investigation records against departmental quality standards.
- Skill in reviewing ongoing investigations and determining necessary actions to ensure child safety before case closure.
- Proficiency in utilizing technology such as Tablet PCs.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and adhere to deadlines.
- Capacity to work collaboratively with other professionals in the community.
- Skill in providing support to colleagues facing job performance challenges.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to travel statewide for extended periods.
