Clinical Nurse Specialist

Work Schedule: PRN

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Administering skilled nursing care to designated patients.
  • Conducting assessments and documenting the physical, psychological, spiritual, and social aspects of patients upon admission.
  • Setting treatment priorities based on medical and nursing diagnoses.
  • Developing, implementing, and adjusting an interdisciplinary care plan tailored to each patient's assessed needs, including family involvement.
  • Leveraging available resources in care planning and consulting with physicians, supervisors, and interdisciplinary services as needed.
  • Providing continuous reassessment and documentation of the patient's condition.
  • Identifying patient issues and/or complications through assessment skills and taking appropriate actions.
  • Documenting nursing interventions and patient responses accurately.
  • Safely preparing, administering, and documenting medications and intravenous therapy.
  • Assessing and delivering patient and family education at their level of comprehension regarding the disease process and treatment plans.
  • Demonstrating the ability to meet the physical demands of the role.
  • Maintaining consistent and reliable attendance.
  • Effectively organizing workload to ensure timely care delivery.
  • Utilizing documentation methods as sanctioned by Mahaska Health Partnership.
  • Accurately transcribing and communicating oral and written physician orders.
  • Timely communicating relevant information regarding the patient's condition to appropriate interdisciplinary team members.
  • Recognizing abnormal labor situations and responding according to departmental protocols.
  • Performing accurate vaginal examinations, notifying physicians for delivery at the appropriate time, and interpreting fetal monitor tracings.
Qualifications include but are not limited to:
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program and current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Iowa (or eligibility to work as a Registered Nurse in Iowa).
  • Current certification in BLS (Basic Life Support) as per the standards of the American Heart Association.
  • Completion of the Mandatory Reporter course at the time of hire or within six months of the start date.
  • Adherence to all training requirements as mandated by federal, state, and professional licensure and regulatory standards.
  • Certification in NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) within one year of hire.
  • Undergoing Birthing Center orientation under the supervision of a preceptor, which includes exposure to vaginal labor/delivery cases, cesarean section cases, postpartum, and newborn care, tailored to each RN's learning needs.
