Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse to join our Special Education Department at Putnam-Northern Westchester BOCES. The successful candidate will provide professional nursing services to students with disabilities in the classroom and community, ensuring their health and well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide and maintain acceptable health standards, school health records, and emergency treatment of student and employee health problems in accordance with state and district policies.
  • Perform professional nursing services to students with disabilities in the classroom and community, as stated on student IEP.
  • Collaborate with nursing and instructional staff to ensure comprehensive care and support for students.
  • Develop and implement individualized health plans to meet the unique needs of students.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date health records, including immunization records, medical histories, and treatment plans.
Requirements
  • Valid New York State LPN licensure.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other nursing and instructional staff.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to pediatric illness and/or injury.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working in a school district or with special needs patients.
  • Experience with tracheostomy care, gastrostomy feedings, and seizures (including those with Diastat).
  • Experience working with cardiac issues, shunts, baclofen pumps, and other medical devices.
  • Highly organized and flexible with effective communication and problem-solving skills.
