Job Summary

MTA, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Transportation Planner to join our team in the Planning and Innovation Department. As a key member of our team, you will provide research and analysis support to help us achieve our short- and long-term strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop Planning Studies and Reports: Assist in creating comprehensive planning studies and reports, including the MTA Annual Report, 5-year plan, and bus fleet management plan.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Responsible for Excel data entry, cleaning, and advanced data sorting, reporting, and manipulation functions.
  • Technical Writing and Compliance: Assist with technical writing, National Transit Database reporting, and Federal Transit Administration compliance.
  • Ridership and Performance Monitoring: Monitor and report on current ridership and operational performance trends.
  • Performance Reporting: Prepare monthly performance reports and applicable key performance indicators.
  • Administrative Support: Provide administrative support to the planning department, including data entry, file management, copying, and answering telephone.
  • Grant Research and Writing: Assist with researching and writing competitive transit-related grant applications.
  • Data Analysis and Recommendations: Analyze large amounts of data to determine local transportation trends and assist in developing recommendations.
  • Community Engagement: Participate in community meetings and activities that may impact public transportation.
  • Long-Range Planning: Assist with the development and maintenance of MTA's long-range plans.
  • Mobility Services Planning: Assist with planning Mobility services, including micro-transit, micro-mobility, and Mobility-As-A-Service (MaaS) to provide a complete set of transportation services to the community.
Qualifications and Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Public Administration, Economics, or a closely related field.
  • Familiarity with federal and state reporting in a non-profit and/or government organization is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong computer skills, including Excel database and reporting skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to write clear, structured, and persuasive grant and funding-related proposals.
  • Innovative and detail-oriented.
  • Analytical skills to conduct and interpret internet research and data for reports and grant applications.
  • Ability to multitask and manage projects effectively to meet firm deadlines.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of federal and state regulations regarding funding and operation of public transportation.
  • Experience using ArcGIS is preferred.
