Job Title: Tax Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tax Manager to join our team at Hawaii Accounting. As a Tax Manager, you will be responsible for managing the client service experience and deliverables, including income tax returns and research memos.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver best-in-class customer service to clients and employees at all times, with an emphasis on being proactive, responsive, professional, and accurate.
  • Actively develop new business opportunities and establish strong relationships with clients.
  • Understand clients' business and industry needs and provide tailored tax planning and compliance services.
  • Manage client expectations regarding deliverables, budgets, and timelines, and ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Conduct and supervise new client interviews, develop scope-of-work proposals, and engagement letters, and set engagement budgets.
  • Develop relationships with clients and participate in client events to promote our services.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with clients, employees, and co-workers to promote a quality service image.
  • Teach tax professionals company policies and procedures for preparing tax workpapers and all types of tax returns.
  • Manage a large number of clients and client projects, prioritize work, and communicate with clients on project status.
  • Deadline-driven and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Review tax source documents, prepare complex tax returns, and supervise the preparation of all types of tax returns.
  • Review, sign off on, and file tax returns prepared by staff.
  • Organize and hold client meetings to review tax returns and provide other tax planning and preparation-related services.
  • Track and record time accurately, review time recorded by staff, and ensure project stays on budget.
  • Review time spent on projects, approve final invoice amounts, and identify tax planning opportunities for clients.
  • Review clients' general excise tax returns and/or other required government reporting, if required.
  • Have an advanced understanding of business entity structure for tax preparation and planning purposes.
  • Commit to continuing education of new and changing tax laws and policies.
  • Practice integrity and professional judgment.
  • Self-driven and takes initiative.
  • Embraces technology and quickly adapts to technological changes.
  • Provide information to clients' external auditors or advisors, if required.
  • Assist in implementing and monitoring performance measures that support the company's strategic direction.
  • Protects the organization's values by keeping information confidential.
  • Actively contributes to the overall positive culture of the company.
  • Create, update, and monitor various management reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience.
  • A minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in public accounting and/or the private sector, including at least one year of supervisory experience.
  • CPA or EA license enabling them to sign off on tax returns and represent clients before the IRS.
  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Advanced knowledge of Ultra Tax, Lacerte, Drake, or other professional tax software.
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks, AccPac, Intacct, or other accounting/bookkeeping software.
  • Ability to travel as required, including overnight or extended stays.
  • Availability to work additional hours or weekends, as projects and tax deadlines demand.
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle driver's license.
  • Ready availability in person or electronically to senior executives in case of emergency.
