As a Pharmacy Technician at Kaiser Permanente, you will work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist to perform general clerical and technical duties. You will work in concert with center administration to ensure the effective delivery of pharmacy services.
Key Responsibilities:- Clerical Duties: Perform general clerical duties, including cash register operation, cash handling, member eligibility verification, bookkeeping, filing, and general supply maintenance.
- Technical Duties: Under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, perform technical duties, including entering prescription and allergy data into the computer, typing prescription labels, retrieving medication from shelves, counting and packaging medication, labeling medication, and retrieving refill request information from phone and automated systems.
- Inventory Control: Assist with inventory control, purchasing, pharmaceutical returns, return-to-stock, shelf cleanliness, product rotation, and maintenance.
- Member Service: Serve members in a friendly, courteous, and expedient manner, promoting member satisfaction and retention.
- Communication: Work in conjunction with medical records and nursing staff to collect and disseminate prescription-related information, such as advice slips and refill requests.
- Training and Development: In conjunction with a supervisor or under their direction, orient and instruct new pharmacy personnel regarding department policies and procedures.
- Patient Education: Participate in patient education programs as appropriate.
- Clinical Pharmacy Services: May have specific clinical pharmacy service responsibilities, such as patient enrollment in the service, telecommunication to patients and practitioners, written patient communication, laboratory data retrieval, processing reports, collecting data for quality improvement projects, maintaining a filing system, and handling administrative office activities.
- Professional Development: Attend pharmacy education or training programs as appropriate.
- Education: High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
- License: Pharmacy Technician License (Georgia) required.
- Skills: Ability to deal pleasantly and effectively with medical staff and patients, knowledge of basic cash register operations and cash control systems, demonstrated ability to read and interpret written prescriptions, and ability to work in a repetitive environment.
- Preferred Qualifications: One (1) year of experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital or retail setting or one (1) year of experience as a Pharmacy Assistant in a Kaiser Permanente Pharmacy preferred.
