Key Responsibilities of a Bus Operator:

  • Safely operate various transit buses or vehicles according to a daily schedule
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
  • Stop at designated locations to load and unload passengers
  • Assist passengers with mobility aids and ensure proper securement
  • Report any deviations, incidents, or mechanical issues to dispatch
  • Ensure fare collection and provide information to passengers
  • Enforce rules and regulations as necessary
  • Complete and submit reports regarding passengers and incidents
  • Operate on-board fare collection systems and display signs.

Requirements for Bus Operators:

  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • Hold a Commercial Learner's Permit at minimum; a valid CDL with passenger and air brake endorsements is preferred
  • Have a minimum of 3 years of driving experience
  • No more than two moving violations in the past three years
  • Strong communication skills
  • Able to work assigned shifts and hours
